Combe Martin Beach
Combe Martin beach is an ideal place to learn how to paddleboard or to kayak.
The beach is sheltered by a breakwater which is submerged at high tide and the end is marked by a red triangle navigation mark on a pole. Both sides of the beach have rock pools which are usually full of small fish or interesting wildlife. The further out the tide goes, the more sand is revealed!
Over the summer (1st of May to 30th September) the beach has a complete dog ban, which is enforced by a Public Spaces Protection Order. Two full time members of staff at the Parish Council and numerous Enforcement Staff from North Devon Council are empowered to give out fines for breaches of this ban. Dogs are also banned from Croyde beach (same dates) but other beaches in North Devon allow dogs.
The Parish Council and a Charity called “Access for all” provide a variety of beach suitable wheelchairs (one is suitable to go into the sea too) and even a beach friendly rollator (for people wanting additional support while walking on the beach). These are all free to use and are kept at the bottom of the slipway.
